Sumner McKane Group Appears on NPR’s “Echoes”

In October, the Sumner McKane Group taped their third live performance for the “Echoes Living Room Concert” series. This series features performances and interviews by artists in their working environment, with host John Diliberto and his crew traveling to musician’s homes. They had previously visited McKane’s home in Portland in 2005 and again in 2007. McKane, bassist Josh Robbins, and drummer Todd the Rocket Richard recorded two sets at the recent taping, held at McKane’s new studio in Wiscasset.

Airing December 24th 2008 as a Holiday Special entitled “Sonic Seasonings,” the live performance coincides with McKane’s latest CD release, “What A Great Place To Be” being named #2 on the list of 25 Essential Echoes CDs. The CD also made host John Diliberto’s list of Top 10 Records for 2008, and the track “After the Fireworks We Walked to the Rope Swing” made John Diliberto’s Top 10 Songs list.

The second part of the taping, a collection of summer themed songs, is due to air on “Echoes” in July 2009.
